Community Guidelines
Surf is for people who want to redesign social media to meet their needs. Use Surf to create custom feeds from across the social web. You can mix sources from Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Flipboard and YouTube, plus RSS and podcasts feeds. Create a new social experience that lets you read, watch, or listen to anything you’re in the mood for. There’s an ocean of possibilities with Surf.
Surf is possible because of an open-source ecosystem with underlying protocols that interconnect different social networks. Here’s a good explainer from The Verge.
To ensure the safety of everyone in the Surf community, we’ve developed the following Community Guidelines. However, please know that you are also subjected to other services’ guidelines when interacting with those networks. For example, if you replied to someone on a social network outside of Surf, that platform may have different moderation rules. Unless you become familiar with those rules, it’ll be hard to know all the intricacies of every server or network, so it’s best to proceed with caution. Use common-sense decency when interacting with anyone.
We reserve the right to take action on any posts violating our Community Guidelines, including removing posts or sources from Surf. This means:
NO hateful posts. Do not:
- Attack, marginalize, or dehumanize a group of people or an individual because of their race, religion, ethnicity, mobility or health condition, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, financial means, immigration status, or political party affiliation. This includes but is not limited to using slurs, epithets, tropes, conspiracy theories, or misinformation.
- Bully, harass, or stalk others.
- Defame others.
- Threaten or glorify violence.
- Share posts that are violent or cruel towards humans or animals.
- Share posts that are graphically violent, abusive, or gory.
- Glorify self-mutilation, eating disorders, or physical abuse.
NO activity that breaks the law or is otherwise unethical. Do not:
- Share child pornography or anything that exploits or sexualizes children.
- Infringe on intellectual property, copyright, or trademark rights.
- Depict or promote unwanted sexual contact.
- Promote illegal drugs, firearms, or explosives.
- Market prostitution or escort services.

NO spamming. Do not:
- Post content automatically at high volumes.
- Use deceptive web redirects.
- Share posts intended for phishing that might abuse or present a security threat to Surf or Surf users.
Surf is in its beta phase of development, and we are actively seeking feedback as we develop features, including moderation tools and user controls. Therefore, these guidelines can and will evolve as we learn and grow.
If you encounter any issues or have feedback, please email us at support@surf.social.
